The beauty of football

Since last Sunday my life has been dominated by the World Cup. Notwithstanding the outrageous decision to award Qatar the tournament in the first place and all the subsequent injustice, discrimination and outright sports-washing, albeit not a new phenomenon in international sporting fixtures, the athleticism, skill, bravery and beauty of the game still captures the attention. Already half way through the Group stages, when every qualifying nation gets to showcase their talent, we’ve had some upsets and surprises. My money is still on France to retain the trophy. On that note of physical beauty, I shall segue to my life drawing class! Since the summer I’ve been trying to revive some latent artistic talent that, from as seen in old sketchbooks rescued from boxes in the loft, must have once been there. Just like footballing skills, I know that only regular practice will improve my drawing technique. Not much chance of that until the World Cup tournament is over!
